PURPOSE

 
 
The Military Order of the World Wars Youth Leadership Conferences (YLC) provides students an unique opportunity to participate in a leadership development seminar taught by leaders from the government, industry, military, and the academic communites. This conference is designed to foster participants to develop leadership capabilities and then encourage them to utilize their new skills to make their communities a better place.
 
     
 

BACKGROUND

 
 
The Youth Leadership Conference is for students in grades 10 and 11, and is part of a nationwide education outreach program sponsored by The Military Order of the World Wars (MOWW) and National Sojourner's. The youth leadership and American Studies-based curriculum for the San Diego Youth Leadership Conference has been designed to achieve the same educational objectives as the MOWW Freedom Foundation, located at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) has included MOWW Youth Leadership Conferences on their list of approved activities and educational programs. MOWW Chapters around the country work with schools and local service organizations in their communities to select, fund, and sponsor worthy students for this advanced leadership training program.

The National Sojourners, Inc., is a national fraternal organization meeting the needs of military Masons and advancing programs that promote love of country. The Military Order of World Wars and the National Sojourners, Inc. have established a Resolution of Cooperation to promote youth leadership and patriotic education programs.

  OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

 
 

 The primary goals of the Youth Leadership Conference are:

 
 
  •  Develop leadership skills and encourage self-actualization
 
 
  •  Develop a deeper understanding of our national heritage
 
 
  •  Examine the basic concepts of democracy
 
     
 
FACULTY AND COUNSELORS
 
 
The YLC courses are taught by leaders from the government, industry, military, and the academic communites. This annual conference, co-sponsored by the J.H. Pendleton, J.P. Holland, and San Diego MOWW in conjunction with the San Diego and Camp Pendleton chapters of the National Sojourner's is designed to help participants develop leadership skills and then encourage them to utilize their new skills to make their communities a better place.
